Off-spinner Amar Virdi has departed Surrey after a long association of 15 years with the club. The 26-year-old, who debuted in 2017, represented the county in 40 first-class matches, with his last appearance for Surrey occurring in 2021. Since then, he had loan spells with Somerset in 2022 and Worcestershire this year.
Virdi was instrumental in Surrey’s 2018 County Championship victory, claiming 39 wickets during the season. Reflecting on his departure, he shared on Surrey’s website that his years with the club, beginning at age 11, had given him many cherished memories. Winning the 2018 Championship, he noted, was a highlight as it marked a return to success for Surrey.
Despite recent challenges with selection and pitch conditions, Virdi expressed confidence in his abilities, citing his productive time on loan at Worcestershire. He is now eager to take the next step in his career and contribute his skills to the game.
