BCB President Ready to Resign Amid Reform Efforts

BCB officials announced on Thursday that President Nazmul Hassan is prepared to resign to support government-led reforms. Currently, in hiding in London with his wife due to political unrest, Nazmul is willing to step down to cooperate with the government.

Several influential board members, also in hiding, have faced increasing pressure, with demands for their resignation coming from former cricket officials. A few remaining BCB directors met on August 14 to discuss the board's future.

One director revealed that Nazmul is ready to resign to help reform the board, while another highlighted the need for full cooperation from an interim government if the board transitions to an elected body. Concerns have arisen about the impact of these changes on the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

According to the BCB's constitution, any resignation must be submitted to the board, which will then hold an election among its 25 directors to fill the vacant positions. Speculation also suggests the government may introduce new members through the National Sports Council (NSC), though this would require removing current NSC-nominated directors.

The BCB has sought legal advice on managing the board during this period, and officials are in regular communication with the interim government. The potential for an ICC sanction exists if the government is seen as interfering with the board's operations. While the constitution doesn't allow for an interim board, it does permit an interim election, which must be legalised through the current board.
