Bethell and Mousley Eye Home Finals Day

Jacob Bethell and Dan Mousley are aiming for an unforgettable week, hoping to secure a place in the T20 Finals Day for Birmingham Bears while also preparing for their England debuts. Both players have been named in England's squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia on 11, 13, and 15 September.

Before their international duties, the Bears face Gloucestershire on Friday, 6 September, with the goal of earning a spot at Finals Day, which will take place at Edgbaston on 14 September.

Bethell expressed his excitement about the possibility of reaching the Finals, telling BBC Radio WM that it would be a huge honour to be part of the event, and he hopes to contribute to the team's success.

Bethell, 20, and Mousley, 23, have been standout performers for the Bears, amassing 731 runs between them, including seven half-centuries, helping Birmingham top the North Group table with 10 victories.

The Bears have faced tough quarter-final losses in recent years, including a two-wicket defeat on the final ball against Essex last season and a crushing 104-run loss to Hampshire in 2022. Their last appearance in the semi-finals was in 2017, when they lost the final to Notts at Edgbaston.

Bethell noted the team's determination to reverse their fortunes this time, acknowledging the close game against Essex but saying that they’re confident and ready to continue playing their brand of cricket. He added that the support from the Edgbaston crowd always provides a significant boost to the team’s morale.

Mousley echoed Bethell's sentiments, saying that when the Hollies Stand is full and energetic, there's no better atmosphere. He expressed excitement for Friday’s match, hoping for a great crowd and an entertaining game. For him, reaching Finals Day would be especially meaningful for the younger players on the team.

With their focus currently on the quarter-final clash, Bethell mentioned that their immediate priority is Friday’s game before turning their attention to England duties. He shared how honoured he feels to be called up for England, appreciating the faith others have shown in him after his performances this season.

Mousley added that playing for England has always been a childhood dream, and receiving the call-up was a pleasant surprise. He’s thrilled about the opportunity to represent England and hopes that both he and Bethell can perform well on the international stage.
