Hampshire’s club captain, James Vince, will miss the Hawks' upcoming participation in the Global Super League (GSL) as Chris Wood steps in to lead the team. Hampshire is among five teams travelling to Guyana for this historic tournament, set to begin in late November.
The club confirmed that Vince is contracted with the Delhi Bulls in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, scheduled from November 21 to December 2. Filling the gap, Wood, Hampshire's all-time leading T20 wicket-taker, will captain the squad in South America.
Wood shared his excitement about the role, reflecting on a prior experience of captaining and expressing it as a great honour. With 191 wickets, Wood ranks as the fourth-highest wicket-taker in Vitality Blast history.
The GSL, reportedly featuring a $1 million (£764,000) prize pool, marks South America's first major stand-alone cricket event. All matches will be held at the 20,000-capacity Guyana National Stadium in Providence, with the tournament running from November 26 to December 7.
