Craig Cumming Appointed Head Coach of the Blaze

Craig Cumming, a former New Zealand batter, has been named head coach of the Blaze, marking their debut season as part of Nottinghamshire’s Tier 1 women’s domestic structure. Cumming, who previously guided Otago Sparks to two Hallyburton Johnstone titles in four years, will join the Blaze after the Super Smash T20 competition concludes in New Zealand.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Cumming noted the privilege of leading the team, acknowledging the high standards upheld by both players and staff. He highlighted the team's success over recent seasons and shared his ambition to contribute further.

Cumming’s appointment follows the departure of Chris Guest, who led the Blaze to victory in last season’s Charlotte Edwards Cup but has since taken charge of England Women Under-19s.

Blaze’s director of cricket, James Cutt, praised Cumming’s achievements with Otago Sparks, emphasising his influence in elevating the team’s standing in New Zealand women’s cricket. After an extensive global search, Cumming emerged as the top candidate, showcasing credentials that aligned with the team’s vision.

Looking ahead, Cutt expressed excitement for the upcoming season, which features an expanded fixture list and a mix of emerging talent and seasoned internationals. He voiced confidence in Cumming’s ability to bring a fresh perspective and drive the team’s evolution from their strong foundation.
