Durham is hoping for a boost from Boland after their match against Hampshire was washed out

Durham will be hoping that after their first game back in Division One of the County Championship was washed out without a ball being bowled against Hampshire, the arrival of Scott Boland in the North East will provide a timely boost.

Boland trained at Chester-le-Street over the weekend and had his head-shots taken at Durham on Monday but was not considered for selection for the opening fixtures. He will be available in all formats until the end of July and is expected to make his debut against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on Friday.

Ryan Campbell, the head coach of Durham, stated:

"He makes it another hard decision. We made some tough decisions ahead of this game: you would have seen Michael Jones and Bas de Leede miss out, which was a tough decision to come to. And now somebody else is going to miss out - if he's ready to play."

In the coming weeks, Durham will welcome back England Test captain Ben Stokes.

There appeared to be a chance of play at the Riverside. Captains Scott Borthwick and James Vince decided to call it off after a midday inspection. The recent heavy rain at the ground followed a winter of relentless rainfall, leaving little respite for groundstaff across the country.
