England Men's Deaf Cricket Team Defeated by India in Historic Series

On Tuesday, England Men's Deaf cricket team faced defeat against India in Worcestershire in their inaugural bilateral series. The match took place at Astwood Bank Cricket Club, marking its first international fixture in its 180-year history.

India secured two decisive wins on the second to last day of the seven-match IT20 series, ultimately clinching the series with a 4-2 victory. Jane Powell, England's disabilities performance manager, expressed her enthusiasm about the series, noting that playing against India in England under sunny skies was a fantastic opportunity. The two teams competed in seven matches across five venues over a span of 10 days.

England emerged victorious in the rain-affected opening match on June 18 in Derby, winning by two runs. However, India won the second and third matches held in Kidderminster two days later. England then claimed a six-wicket victory in the fourth match in Northampton on Sunday, equalising the series with a score of 152-4.

The final match of the series is scheduled to take place in Leicester on Thursday. Ms. Powell highlighted the significance of the series for the English players, stating that they play a high standard of cricket, and spectators are often surprised by their skill level, remarking, "Wow, they're good cricketers." She added that the main area for improvement is communication.

Martin Ward from Astwood Bank Cricket Club expressed pride in hosting the international teams, acknowledging the club's efforts in making the day special and commending the players as a great group.
