Essex have re-signed Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams for this year's Vitality T20 Blast.

The first block of eight matches between May and June is expected to see him available.

Sams, 31, won the Blast MVP award and helped Essex finish runners-up last season and will return to Chelmsford for a third successive summer. According to Essex head coach Anthony McGra, the team is obviously delighted to be able to re-sign Daniel for the Blast this year. McGra showed what Sams was capable of last summer and was an important part of the team. The team is looking forward to seeing him again for the first block of T20 matches.Sams topped the runs and wickets charts with Essex in 2023. He came close to leading his side over the line in the final, last man out for 45 off 26 in a 14-run defeat to Somerset.

Despite winning 10 T20I caps for Australia, the last time he played in 2022 and was not expected to play in the World Cup, which takes place in the Caribbean and USA in June. However, he will only be available for the first half of the Blast group stage due to a clash with Major League Cricket, which starts on 4 July.Sams told he is really looking to get back to Essex after the year he had in 2023. He was delighted to be a part of the success the Essex team had last season and the squad was good enough to have a decent chance of going one better and winning some silverware
