Worcestershire has signed 20-year-old spinning all-rounder Fateh Singh from Nottinghamshire on a three-year contract, following his impressive loan spell during the summer. The slow left-arm spinner showcased his talent in the One-Day Cup, claiming 15 wickets at an average of 24.13, including a career-best 4 for 52 against Somerset.
Rising Star in County Cricket
Singh’s standout performances earned him further opportunities, including a first-class debut for Northamptonshire late in the 2024 season during another loan stint. A former England U19 player, Singh was part of the squad that reached the final of the 2022 U19 ODI World Cup, although he featured in just two matches.
Having been part of Nottinghamshire’s system since the age of nine, Singh was under contract until the end of 2025. However, limited opportunities at Trent Bridge, where 16-year-old off-spinner Farhan Ahmed had taken the spotlight, prompted Nottinghamshire to support Singh’s move to Worcestershire to aid his development. Over his time with Nottinghamshire, Singh made only 12 appearances, all in the One-Day Cup.
A Bright Future at Worcestershire
Worcestershire, who secured a commendable sixth-place finish in Division One of the County Championship last season, presents Singh with a promising platform to advance his career. The club has a strong reputation for fostering young talent, and Singh is eager to contribute to their success.
Expressing his excitement in a club statement, Singh described his summer with Worcestershire as a rewarding experience, particularly being part of a young, dynamic attack. He appreciated the welcoming environment and credited his time there for helping him find rhythm with the ball. Singh is determined to follow in the footsteps of players like Jake Libby, who flourished after moving to Worcestershire from Nottinghamshire, and is committed to making a meaningful impact.
Building for the Future
Worcestershire’s chief executive, Ashley Giles, welcomed Singh’s signing, emphasising its importance in bolstering the team’s spin department. He praised Singh’s potential and performances during the One-Day Cup, highlighting the club’s aim to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level and continuing their upward trajectory.
The move also comes as Worcestershire strengthens its spin options following the tragic loss of left-arm spinner Josh Baker earlier this year. Despite considering off-spinner Amar Virdi, who had two loan spells with the club, they opted not to secure his services.
With Singh’s arrival, Worcestershire continues to invest in its future, nurturing talent and aiming for sustained success in county cricket.
