The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asked for applicants for the position after it was reported in the media that Rahul Dravid, the current coach of India, was not interested in having his contract extended. It is important to remember that Dhoni, who is a batter and wicketkeeper, cannot be appointed head coach immediately even if the application time has passed and he has not submitted an application.
Since he hasn't given up on all kinds of cricket, MS Dhoni isn't immediately qualified to take over as head coach of India.
