Ireland Stuns England in Record-Breaking T20 Chase to Level Series

In a thrilling encounter in Dublin, Ireland pulled off their highest-ever run chase in women's T20 internationals, defeating England by five wickets and levelling the two-match series 1-1.

Orla Prendergast delivered a standout performance, scoring an impressive 80 off 51 balls, guiding Ireland to victory with just one ball to spare as they chased down England’s target of 170.

This victory marks Ireland’s first T20 triumph over England in their four meetings, and it came after a crucial partnership of 79 runs between Prendergast and captain Gaby Lewis. After losing opener Amy Hunter for just one run in the first over, the pair stabilised the innings. Lewis contributed an entertaining 38 from 35 balls, while Leah Paul’s steady 27 from 27 deliveries brought Ireland within touching distance of victory.

In a tense finish, Mady Villiers claimed two wickets in the final over, but a missed run-out chance allowed Ireland to secure the win on an overthrow.

Earlier, England had posted 169-8, with Tammy Beaumont leading the charge by smashing 40 off 34 balls, including seven boundaries. Despite a strong start from the openers, Bryony Smith (28) and Beaumont, England’s momentum was disrupted by Arlene Kelly, who took two quick wickets. Paige Scholfield and Beaumont rebuilt with a partnership of 59 for the third wicket before Ireland’s bowlers once again turned the tide, leaving England struggling at 137-5.

Georgia Adams, in only her second T20 international, added a valuable 23 off 15 balls to push England to a defendable total.

However, Ireland’s determined reply, led by Prendergast and Lewis, proved too strong. After losing Hunter early, the duo displayed composure and slowly took control of the game.

Ireland’s victory follows their impressive performance in the recent ODI series, demonstrating their growing resilience and ability to compete at the highest level.

Score Summary:

- England: 169-8 (20 overs), Beaumont 40 (34); Kelly 2-22

- Ireland: 170-5 (19.5 overs), Prendergast 80 (51); Cross 2-29

Ireland wins by five wickets, drawing the series 1-1.
