Jamie Smith’s performance in Surrey

Chris Wood of Hampshire exhibited commendable sportsmanship during their match against Kent by choosing not to run out Kent's Matt Parkinson in their three-wicket victory. Meanwhile, Surrey continued their winning streak in the Vitality Blast with Jamie Smith's blistering knock of 87 off 38 balls, leading them to a commanding 57-run win over reigning champions Somerset.

Smith, who has been in fine form, previously scored 76 against Glamorgan and continued his impressive run with a sensational performance at the Kia Oval. Despite most of Surrey's batters falling for single-digit scores, Ollie Pope's contribution of 40 runs and a partnership of 111 with Smith proved crucial. Smith's explosive innings, comprising seven sixes, propelled Surrey to a total of 163 all out.

In response, Somerset struggled against Surrey's bowling attack, with Ben Green's four wickets for 32 runs doing significant damage. Somerset was ultimately dismissed for 106, with Sean Abbott contributing with three wickets, including the key dismissal of Tom Kohler-Cadmore through a brilliant run-out.

In another match, Essex secured their first victory of the tournament against Middlesex, largely thanks to a spectacular century by Michael Pepper. Despite Middlesex posting a challenging total of 203 for seven, with Max Holden scoring an unbeaten 85, Pepper's explosive innings of 101 off just 44 balls guided Essex to victory by four wickets.

Lastly, Hampshire staged an impressive comeback to defeat Kent by three wickets at the Ageas Bowl. However, the highlight of the match was Chris Wood's display of sportsmanship when, instead of running out Matt Parkinson after he accidentally struck his teammate with a shot, Wood chose to pick up the ball and return to his mark. This act of fair play resonated throughout the match as Hampshire restricted Kent to 165 for nine.

In a thrilling encounter, Hampshire staged a remarkable comeback, requiring 42 runs off the last three overs. James Fuller's explosive innings of 30 runs, including three consecutive sixes, turned the tide in Hampshire's favour. Liam Dawson then sealed the victory with another maximum, guiding the hosts over the line.

Meanwhile, Sam Northeast's unbeaten 61 propelled Glamorgan to a competitive total of 183 for seven against Sussex in Cardiff. Despite a valiant effort from Tymal Mills, who claimed four wickets for 33 runs, Sussex fell short and were restricted to 158 for six. James Coles' resilient knock of 69 not out was not enough to secure victory for Sussex as Mason Crane's economical spell of two for 22 played a crucial role in Glamorgan's triumph.

In the North Group, Lancashire claimed the top spot after a commanding 57-run win over Derbyshire. Chris Green's four-wicket haul dismantled Derbyshire's batting lineup, restricting them to just 122 runs. Lancashire's innings was anchored by Josh Bohannon's 39 runs, setting the foundation for their total of 179 for seven.

In another match, Yorkshire secured a 29-run victory over Northamptonshire, with Joe Root and Dawid Malan leading the charge with scores of 35 and 41 respectively. Ravi Bopara's all-round performance for Northamptonshire, including four wickets and a score of 35 runs, wasn't enough to prevent Yorkshire from clinching their second win of the campaign. Jordan Thompson's three-wicket haul proved decisive in restricting Northamptonshire to 157 for eight.
