John Blain Accuses Cricket Scotland of Historical Revisionism in Racism Allegations

Former Scotland cricketer John Blain has accused Cricket Scotland of attempting to "rewrite history" concerning the racism allegations made against him. These accusations were brought forth by his ex-team-mates, Majid Haq and Qasim Sheikh, during an independent review that uncovered numerous instances of institutional racism within the organisation.

Blain was recently cleared by independent investigators, and he disclosed that in January, former Cricket Scotland CEO Pete Fitzboydon had sent him a letter confirming that the allegations against him were "not founded" and that "there is no case to answer," effectively closing the matter.

However, the investigating team later clarified that their role was solely to establish factual findings, not to determine guilt or innocence.

On Tuesday, Blain criticised Cricket Scotland's response, describing it as a "craven, disingenuous and despicable attempt to rewrite history." He pointed out that apart from the Fitzboydon letter, he had also received a phone call in February from Trudy Lindblade, the current CEO of Cricket Scotland, reaffirming the same position.

In a statement, Blain, who has represented Scotland 118 times, expressed his frustration over what he views as Cricket Scotland's attempt to reverse their previous clear exoneration. He asserted that the assurances from two chief executives severely undermined Cricket Scotland's current stance.

Blain stated his intention to consult his legal team to take all necessary measures to protect his reputation following what he considers an "extraordinary and unsustainable about-turn" by Cricket Scotland.

In response, Cricket Scotland issued an update on Tuesday, providing their perspective on the ongoing situation.
