Middlesex County Cricket Club has announced its first annual profit since 2016

For the year ending November 2023, Middlesex announced a net profit of £131,000.

Since winning the County Championship in 2016, this is the first annual profit the club has made.

The county was sanctioned for breaches of their financial regulations by the England & Wales Cricket Board in September.

Middlesex's chief executive, Andrew Cornish, said work has been done to ensure that the club can operate as a sustainable business moving forward.

In a statement posted on the club's website, Cornish added that the profit had resulted from enormous hard work, dedication, and commitment.

The ECB sanctioned Middlesex last year after investigating funds provided to the Middlesex Cricket Board (MCB) and Middlesex County Cricket Club.

The club, which was relegated from Division One of the County Championship last season, received a points deduction across all formats. This deduction was suspended until October 2025, and payments from the ECB were reduced. The ECB has also overseen Middlesex's financial plans since then

In late 2021, Illa Sharma joined Middlesex as Chief Financial Officer following Andrew Cornish's appointment as the club's CEO.

Middlesex acknowledged that the club had been poorly managed in the past and that serious administrative irregularities in the club's pension scheme had had a significant impact on its financial position in response to the ECB's sanction last year.
