Nottinghamshire Won Day One at Canterbury

Ben Slater's brilliant century powered Nottinghamshire to a commanding position on the first day of their County Championship Division One clash against bottom-placed Kent at the Spitfire Ground, Canterbury.

Slater's impressive 160 from 217 balls helped eighth-placed Nottinghamshire post a strong total of 393-6, despite losing the toss. His innings was supported by 37 extras, adding to Kent's struggles as they battled relegation.

Slater and Haseeb Hameed (56) put together a solid opening partnership of 196, with Slater surviving a dropped catch on 41. Former Nottinghamshire all-rounder Joey Evison eventually broke the stand by bowling Hameed, and Nathan Gilchrist soon followed by dismissing Freddie McCann for eight.

Joe Clarke fell for just 18 after being taken out by George Garrett, but Slater and Jack Haynes built on Nottinghamshire’s momentum. The pair added 66 for the fourth wicket before Jack Leaning removed Slater. Haynes continued the charge with 62, forming a 60-run partnership with Lyndon James, who scored 34.

Both Haynes and James were dismissed in quick succession as Nottinghamshire approached 400, leaving Kent trailing by 393 runs as they prepared to bat on day two.

Match Summary:

- Nottinghamshire 393-6 (Slater 160; Gilchrist 2-85)

- Kent (yet to bat) trail by 393 runs.
