Ollie Pope is eager to start scoring runs again after a frustrating tour of India

England batsman Ollie Pope is eager to return to the field after reflecting on the errors he made during a disappointing tour of India, both as an individual and as part of the team.

Pope shone in a remarkable first Test victory in Hyderabad, scoring a brilliant 196. He failed to surpass 39 in his next eight innings and was dismissed for a pair in Ranchi.

Several of his teammates experienced a similar outcome, as India won the final four Tests convincingly, resulting in the first series loss of the Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum era.

The series also marked Pope's return to action after dislocating his right shoulder during the Ashes last summer.

Although he spent most of the winter travelling, the 26-year-old returned to training with Surrey on Monday. He aims to score plenty of runs in the Vitality County Championship before the home Test series against West Indies in July:

“I might miss one in that first seven or eight games, but yes, I’m itching to get back and just scoring runs and representing Surrey.”
