Ollie Pope suggests that England may opt to field two seamers in the third Test against India

England vice-captain Ollie Pope has stated that there is a possibility that the tourists will field an additional seamer in the third Test against India in Rajkot.

England have only selected one specialist fast bowler for each of the first two Tests, with the series currently level at 1-1.

On Tuesday, two days before the third Test begins on Thursday, the Rajkot pitch had a covering of green grass.

In an interview with BBC Sport Pope said: 'If it stays like that, there's every chance two seamers will be played,.

"I don't want to reveal too much, but currently the pitch has a bit more grass on it. It appears to be in good condition.

Conditions can change, especially with the heat throughout the day, so the team prefers to make a final decision the day before the Test match.

If England decides to include an extra seamer, Mark Wood may join James Anderson in the XI. Wood had his left leg strapped on Tuesday but still is participating fully in training.

Ollie Robinson, who bowled a long spell in the nets, is another option.

One of the young spinners, Rehan Ahmed, Shoaib Bashir, or Tom Hartley, would have to be left out. Ahmed, a leg-spinner, is perhaps the most likely to miss out.

On Tuesday, 19-year-old Ahmed attended training after encountering a visa issue upon England's return to India from Abu Dhabi.

This was a separate issue from Bashir's earlier delay, which required him to return to the UK.

According to an England statement, Ahmed's visa had a paperwork discrepancy, but the local authorities at Rajkot Airport were helpful and allowed him to enter on a temporary visa.

The appropriate visa should be processed and issued in the next few days. He will continue to prepare with the rest of the team for the third Test.

England will be without senior spinner Jack Leach, who left the tour due to a knee injury.

India will continue to miss Virat Kohli for the rest of the series due to his personal reasons, and batter KL Rahul remains injured. The middle order spot is being contested by uncapped players Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal.

England captain Ben Stokes will play his 100th Test in Rajkot, 11 years after his debut against Australia in Adelaide.

Stokes, who is 32 years old, will become the 16th Englishman to reach this milestone, marking another achievement in his illustrious career.

Pope praised him, saying, 'What a legend of the game! There are so many great memories from his career.

Stokes gives 110% to every Test he plays, treating each one as if it were his last. He can do amazing things in the field, with the bat, and with the ball. May this continue for many years to come, wishs Pope.
