Rain Ends Final T20 as England Seals 3-1 Series Victory Over WI

The fifth and final T20 match between England and West Indies in St. Lucia ended in disappointment, as heavy rain forced an abandonment without a result.

After England captain Jos Buttler opted to bowl first, West Indies openers Evin Lewis (29) and Shai Hope (14) guided their team to 44-0 in five overs before the skies opened. Despite efforts by the ground staff to clear the soggy field, the game was officially called off at 22:15 GMT.

With the match washed out, England secured a 3-1 series win, having earlier lost the ODI leg of the tour 2-1.

Series Standouts

- Phil Salt: England’s opener led the series in runs with 162 across four innings, including an unbeaten 103 in the first T20.

- Rovman Powell: The West Indies skipper was the second-highest scorer with 153 runs.

- Saqib Mahmood: The England seamer topped the wicket charts with nine dismissals in four matches, earning the Player of the Series award.

Captains Reflect

- Jos Buttler (England): "We’re delighted with the series win. We’ve played some brilliant cricket. It was nice to captain without keeping—I felt like I had more time and could be closer to the bowlers."
- Rovman Powell (West Indies): "It’s been a tough series. Credit to Jos Buttler and his team for dominating. We showed good patches of cricket but couldn’t sustain it."

What’s Next for England

The England Test side heads to New Zealand for a three-match series beginning November 27. Meanwhile, the white-ball squad’s next challenge comes in January with a series against India—the first under new head coach Brendon McCullum.

Player of the Series, Saqib Mahmood

"As a group, we’ve focused on taking wickets in the powerplay, so seeing that payoff is nice. We’ve got a strong pool of fast bowlers now—hopefully, we can stay fit and keep building on this success."
