Scholfield Shines in Invincibles' Victory Over Originals

The Hundred Women's Competition, Old Trafford

Manchester Originals: 125-4 (100 balls): Wolvaardt 38 (29); Wellington 2-22

Oval Invincibles: 127-3 (93 balls): Scholfield 48 (27); Monaghan 2-7

Invincibles won by seven wickets

Paige Scholfield's unbeaten 48 led the Oval Invincibles to a crucial seven-wicket win against the Manchester Originals.

Chasing 126 to win at Old Trafford, the Invincibles were struggling at 60-3 after 56 balls when Scholfield entered the fray. The South Africa-born right-hander then formed an unbroken partnership of 67 with Marizanne Kapp, guiding the visitors to victory with seven balls remaining.

Amanda-Jade Wellington was the standout bowler for the Invincibles, claiming 2-22, including the crucial wicket of Originals opener Laura Wolvaardt. After a slow start, the Originals picked up pace as Wolvaardt scored 38 from 28 balls, but a superb low catch by Ryana MacDonald-Gay off Wellington's bowling ended her innings.

The Originals' momentum stalled, but captain Sophie Ecclestone's lively 26 not out from 15 balls helped them reach a defendable total. Despite this, they couldn't break the Scholfield-Kapp partnership, leading to their third defeat of the season.

This victory moves the Invincibles up to second place in the standings, just one point behind the leaders Welsh Fire, while the Originals are three points back in sixth.

Additional Highlights:

- Originals opener Beth Mooney scored 22 runs but has yet to find her top form, with her highest score being 24 in five innings.

- Chamari Athapaththu from Sri Lanka contributed 33 runs from 36 balls for the Invincibles, hitting five boundaries.

- Originals seamer Alice Monaghan took 2-7 in just 10 balls, putting the home side in a strong position early on.

- Scholfield and Kapp's decisive 67-run partnership came off just 37 balls.
