Seales aims to use his time at Sussex to regain his place in the Test squad

Jayden Seales, the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, and West Indies pacer, aims to enhance his chances of a recall to the West Indies Test squad during his upcoming stint at Vitality County Championship team Sussex.

Seales, who is 22 years old, has not played in the format since the first Test against Australia in December 2022.

He has taken 37 wickets in 10 Tests at an average of 24.24 and a strike rate of 42.9, including a five-wicket haul against Pakistan at Sabina Park in 2021.

Following a knee injury that required surgery, he missed the remainder of the Australia series.

He successfully returned to the Windies team during an ODI series against India in August 2023. However, he faced another period of absence after sustaining a shoulder injury while touring South Africa with the West Indies A team in November of the same year.

Seales has played in all five matches for the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force in the ongoing West Indies Championship, taking 11 wickets.

When asked in an interview with Sussex whether he views this County Championship stint as an opportunity to get back into the squad for the West Indies' next Test assignment in England from July 10-30, he responded with a quick 'of course':

“Obviously being able to play first-class cricket back home and now getting the opportunity to play in England, it will help me hone my skills in English conditions and, hopefully, the management is watching and I’m putting in the performances that I need to get back into the Test side.”

The first Test of the series will be played at Lord's Cricket Ground, commonly referred to as 'the home of cricket'.

Playing at this ground is a dream for many cricketers, and Seales is no exception.

When Sussex takes on Northamptonshire at Hove, Seales will be making his County Championship Division Two debut.
