Simi Singh Begins Recovery

Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh has entered the recovery stage following a liver transplant operation after a severe health scare.

The 37-year-old cricketer had been facing "life-threatening health circumstances" due to acute liver failure. In early September, Cricket Ireland's chief executive Warren Deutrom shared the news, expressing shock at Singh’s condition and extending his thoughts and prayers for the player's recovery.

Singh took to Instagram to explain that his liver failure was the result of being given incorrectly prescribed antibiotics and steroids. He expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am incredibly lucky to have my wife, who ultimately became my donor." He also thanked everyone for their support and prayers.

Prior to the surgery, The Times of India had reported that Singh was receiving treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, where he awaited the transplant. His wife, Agamdeep, had agreed to donate a portion of her liver. Singh’s father-in-law, Parvinder Singh, mentioned that doctors were optimistic the procedure would be successful, giving Simi a new lease on life.

Deutrom described Singh as a "central figure in Irish cricket, both internationally and at the provincial and club levels," and praised his determination to succeed. He expressed hope that Singh’s strong will would help him overcome this health crisis, stating, "Stay strong, Simi. We're all behind you."

Singh has represented Ireland in 35 one-day internationals and 53 T20 matches, including appearances in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups.
