Sir Geoffrey Boycott Hospitalised Again Due to Pneumonia Complications

Sir Geoffrey Boycott, the former England cricket captain, has been readmitted to the hospital after developing pneumonia following surgery for throat cancer. The 83-year-old had been discharged on Friday after undergoing an operation to remove a tumour.

Unfortunately, Boycott's family shared on his X account that his condition had worsened, resulting in his return to the hospital. They reported that he was now suffering from pneumonia, unable to eat or drink, and required oxygen and a feeding tube for the foreseeable future.

The family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and well-wishes received since Boycott's initial discharge.

Following his discharge, Boycott had been on a liquid-only diet. He was first diagnosed with throat cancer in 2002 and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. The cancer resurfaced earlier this year, necessitating further surgery.

Boycott, a former opening batsman for England, played in 108 Test matches between 1964 and 1982, amassing 8,114 runs, including 22 centuries. His first-class cricket career with Yorkshire saw him achieve an impressive average of 56.83, with over 48,000 runs and 151 centuries.

After retiring from cricket, Boycott spent 14 years with the BBC's commentary team, contributing to Test Match Special until 2020. He underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery in 2018, which influenced his decision to retire from commentating, alongside concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
