Fast bowler Sonny Baker is set to move to Hampshire following the expiration of his contract with Somerset at the end of the season. The 21-year-old, who joined Somerset's academy in 2020, made his first-team debut in the One-Day Cup the following year.
Throughout his time at Somerset, Baker has made 11 additional appearances, claiming 19 wickets. However, this season he has featured in just one match, which was during the T20 Blast. Baker has also represented England’s under-19 team on five occasions and competed for Southern Brave in the 2022 Hundred competition.
Hampshire’s director of cricket, Giles White, described Baker as an exciting talent with the capability to deliver genuine pace. White added that Baker will bolster Hampshire's bowling lineup and join a promising group of young players who have the potential to elevate the club’s performance to new heights.
