Vaughan Predicts Joe Root Will Surpass Tendulkar's Test Run Record

Joe Root continues to excel, and former England captain Michael Vaughan believes the seasoned batsman could become Test cricket's all-time leading run-scorer, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar.

Vaughan, impressed by Root's consistent performances, thinks the former England captain is well on his way to achieving this remarkable feat. Root recently climbed to eighth place on the all-time Test run-scorers list with his 32nd Test century against the West Indies in Nottingham. Vaughan is confident that the 33-year-old can reach even greater heights.

Root is just 13 runs shy of surpassing West Indies legend Brian Lara, who sits in seventh place. Tendulkar's record of 15,921 Test runs is now within 4,000 runs of Root's current tally. Vaughan anticipates Root will surpass Alastair Cook's 12,472 runs to become England's highest run-scorer during their series against Pakistan and New Zealand later this year. He believes that if Root maintains his form, he could eventually eclipse Tendulkar's record.

Vaughan expressed his admiration for Root in The Telegraph, stating that Root is poised to become England’s leading run-scorer soon and has the potential to overtake Tendulkar. He praised Root's strategic play, noting how he reserved the reverse-scoop until after he passed 100 in the second Test against the West Indies, contributing to England's substantial lead.

Vaughan remarked that given the conditions and the opposition, he expected Root to score a century. Despite missing out in the first innings, Root was determined to rectify his performance in the second, demonstrating his resilience and skill.

Root isn't the only English batter catching Vaughan’s eye; young talent Harry Brook has also impressed the former skipper. Brook scored his fifth Test century with an impressive 109 in the second innings against the West Indies at Trent Bridge, further highlighting the depth of talent in the England squad.
