Surrey has signed fast bowler Matthew Fisher from Yorkshire for the 2025 season. Yorkshire confirmed in August that the 26-year-old would depart at the end of this season.
Fisher has an impressive record, having taken 144 wickets in 44 first-class games for Yorkshire, averaging 26.58. He made his Test debut for England in 2022 against the West Indies, where he bowled six maidens in 27 overs and claimed one wicket.
This year, Fisher played a key role in Yorkshire’s promotion back to County Championship Division One, capturing 27 wickets across seven matches.
Alec Stewart, Surrey’s director of men’s cricket, explained that strengthening the squad after a Championship win is always a priority. He said Fisher's experience and skill set made him an ideal addition, especially with Conor McKerr leaving and potential England call-ups next summer.
Fisher was a versatile player for Yorkshire, excelling in all three formats of the game. Along with his first-class success, he claimed 27 wickets in 27 List A matches and took 45 wickets in 42 T20 Blast games.
