Having batted at number four for India eight times, Rohit has a respectable average of 31.33 and a strike rate of 122.88. According to Kohli, who opens for India, his average is 57.14 with a strike rate of 161.29.
There is a lack of clarity on the opening batsman for India ahead of their T20 World Cup match against Ireland in the West Indies and the USA in less than a week. After the incredible season that Virat Kohli had for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League, there is debate about whether or not he should open alongside skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Wasim Jaffer, a former Indian cricket player, would also share his thoughts. He would, however, advise Rohit to bat at number four and suggest Jaiswal and Kohli open. “Kohli & Jaiswal should open in the World Cup IMO(In My Opinion). Rohit & SKY should bat 3&4 depending on the start we get. Rohit plays spin well so batting at 4 shouldn’t be a concern,” Jaffer posted on his X (previously known as Twitter) account.

India has selected Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant as their wicketkeepers for the main event. In the IPL, the former has amassed 521 runs for the Rajasthan Royals at an average of 52.10 and a strike rate of 155.52, while the latter has led the Delhi Capitals with 446 runs at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40.
Only one player, though, can make the starting XI due to the makeup of the Indian team, and former player Yuvraj Singh stated that he would prefer Pant to Samson. “I’d probably go for Rishabh,” Yuvraj said speaking to ICC. “Sanju is also in great form, but Rishabh (is a) left-hander,” he would reason
“I believe that Rishabh has massive potential to win games for India, which he has done in the past,” Yuvraj would predict. “Lot more in Test cricket, and he’s (Pant) someone who I feel can be a match-winner on the big stage.”
