Dawid Malan accepts that his time with England is likely to have run its course, but is planning his future in cricket by taking the first steps towards a coaching career with Yorkshire.
Malan still has six months left on the England captaincy contract he signed last October, but despite finishing as top scorer in a disappointing World Cup defence last year, it is highly unlikely he will pull on the jersey again.
Though not officially retired, Malan's name was conspicuous by its absence from the squads that immediately followed the disastrous campaign in India, and after 92 limited-overs internationals and 22 Tests, the 36-year-old is looking to the next chapter.
Having agreed on a white-ball only deal at Headingley until 2024, he will spend the early part of the season helping his fellow batsmen, from the first team down, before returning to the game for the Vitality Blast.
