Won with one ball

Checkley Cricket Club's second team had a swift victory against Wedgwood CC's second XI in the Cricket Cave Talbot Shield match. Wedgwood, choosing to bat first, faced a disastrous collapse, being bowled out for just eight runs. Opener and captain Tom Smith was the top scorer with only two runs, while the innings included eight ducks and a solitary run from the last batsman, Marcelle Souce. Extras contributed five runs, mainly from leg-byes and a wide.

Checkley's bowlers dominated the innings, with Nick Hunt and Charlie Lewis leading the attack. Hunt finished with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 3 runs in 5 overs, while Lewis claimed 5 wickets for just 1 run in 5.1 overs, dismantling the opposition's top order and tail.

In the chase, Checkley wasted no time in reaching their target. Opener Blake Haddrell dispatched Dom Marsh's first two balls for four, with the second ball being a no-ball. This meant that Checkley reached their target of nine runs with just one legal delivery.

Meanwhile, in another club cricket fixture, former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara made an appearance for Shillingstone CC in the Dorset Cricket League's third-division match against Kingston Lacy CC. Sangakkara, known for his illustrious international career, scored 68 runs from 50 balls before being dismissed by John Burns, contributing to Shillingstone's 76-run victory.
