Yorkshire squad’s leader

Jordan Thompson's impressive performance in Yorkshire's win over Northants Steelbacks came as a result of regaining a "clear head" after their previous defeat. Yorkshire had suffered a setback in their T20 Blast campaign with a loss to Leicestershire, but Thompson's all-round contribution helped them bounce back strongly.

Thompson's bowling figures of 3-18, along with contributions from Dom Bess and Matt Revis, restricted Northants to 157-8. Reflecting on his performance, Thompson emphasised the importance of staying focused and moving forward in T20 cricket, where momentum can quickly shift.

In addition to his bowling, Thompson also made a valuable contribution with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 20 off just seven deliveries. His partnership with Shan Masood and Dom Bess played a crucial role in Yorkshire's victory.

Former teammate Ravi Bopara posed a threat for Yorkshire with both bat and ball, but Thompson managed to dismiss him and praised Bopara's skills despite his age.

Yorkshire's head coach Ottis Gibson highlighted Thompson's leadership qualities and his role in guiding the team, particularly in the bowling department. Thompson's influence extends beyond his on-field performances, as he actively engages with his teammates and provides valuable insights during team meetings.

Despite a new injury concern over Dom Leech, Yorkshire remains optimistic about their upcoming matches. With a week off before their next game against Derbyshire, the team aims to regroup, rest, and prepare for the challenges ahead at Headingly.
