In the first ODI of the 2024 series between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, rain disrupted the match at the Harare Sports Club, which took place on December 17. Despite both teams aiming for a strong start, the weather proved to be a formidable opponent. After winning the toss, Afghanistan chose to field first, and Zimbabwe opened their innings with Ben Curran and Tadiwanashe Marumani.
However, Zimbabwe struggled against Afghanistan's impressive bowling attack, with Curran scoring just 15 runs and Marumani only managing six. The situation worsened for the hosts when Brian Bennett was dismissed for a duck by Azmatullah Omarzai. Following a lacklustre start, Dion Myers added 12 runs to the team's total before being dismissed by AM Ghazanfar. Sean Williams also fell for a duck, leaving Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza at the crease with paltry scores of one run each.
At the time of the rain interruption, Zimbabwe's score stood at 44 for five, leading to the match being abandoned with no result. Azmatullah Omarzai emerged as the standout player, claiming four wickets for just 18 runs in four overs, while Ghazanfar contributed one wicket. With the first ODI called off, both teams are set to meet again for the second ODI on December 19, hoping for better weather conditions and a definitive outcome.
