Bangladesh Secures Victory Over Pakistan

Bangladesh achieved their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan with a commanding 10-wicket win in Rawalpindi, following a dramatic second-innings collapse by the hosts.

Mushfiqur Rahim’s masterful 191 off 341 balls led Bangladesh to a substantial first-innings total of 565, giving them a 117-run lead after Pakistan declared their first innings at 448-6.

In their second innings, Pakistan crumbled to 146 all out, leaving Bangladesh with a modest target of 30 runs, which they chased down comfortably within seven overs.

Muhammad Rizwan was Pakistan's top scorer in the second innings with 51 runs, but Bangladesh’s spinners, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan, claimed seven wickets between them, ensuring the victory on the fifth day.

Bangladesh’s openers, Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam, easily secured the required runs, finishing unbeaten on 15 and 9 respectively, marking only Bangladesh’s second overseas Test win in the last seven years.

In Pakistan’s first innings, Rizwan had anchored the innings with an unbeaten 171, while Saud Shakeel added 141, rescuing the team from a precarious position of 114-4 with their 240-run partnership.

However, their efforts were overshadowed by Mushfiqur's brilliant innings, supported by opener Shadman’s 93, and fifties from Mominul Haque and Litton Das. Mehidy’s 77 further highlighted his all-round performance.

This defeat extends Pakistan’s winless streak at home in Test matches, with their last victory on home soil dating back to February 2021, followed by four losses and five draws.

The second and final Test of the series is scheduled to begin in Karachi on Friday, 30 August.
