Derbyshire Backs Coach Mickey Arthur Amid Challenging Season

Derbyshire's chief executive, Ryan Duckett, has expressed strong support for head of cricket Mickey Arthur despite the team's underwhelming performance this season. Although Derbyshire has begun their One-Day Cup campaign with two wins, they find themselves at the bottom of Division Two in the County Championship. This follows a sixth-place finish last year and a fifth-place finish in 2022, Arthur's inaugural season.

The team, known as the Falcons, reached the T20 Blast semi-finals in 2019 and the quarter-finals in 2023 but failed to advance to the knockout stages this year. Arthur, 56, emphasised his commitment to the team, stating he has no plans to leave despite a significant Championship loss to Yorkshire at Chesterfield earlier this month. Duckett echoed this sentiment, affirming that Arthur is fully dedicated to bringing success to Derbyshire. Duckett acknowledged the team's frustrating results but pointed out that there have been positive aspects throughout the season.

Duckett also accentuated Arthur's role in Derbyshire's future strategy, highlighting the recent signing of Martin Andersson from Middlesex as their first new player for 2025. He assured fans that Arthur is integral to the club's cricket committee and long-term plans.

Arthur, who previously coached Australia, South Africa, and Pakistan, joined Derbyshire in November 2021 after leaving his position with Sri Lanka. In December 2022, he extended his contract with Derbyshire, committing to the club until the end of the 2025 season.
