Diamonds suffer defeat to Sparks in Mumbai pre-season T20

In their first fixture of 2024, the Northern Diamonds were defeated by regional rivals Central Sparks in a T20 friendly in Mumbai, losing by six wickets.

The two teams met at the MIG Kurla ground, with another match scheduled for Sunday, which will be a 40 or 45-over game.

Emma Marlow was the top scorer with 28 runs off 30 balls after the Diamonds won the toss and elected to bat.

Lauren Winfield-Hill captained the team in the absence of Hollie Armitage, who is currently on England duty.

Marlow came in at 41-3 after seven overs.

The only six of the innings was hit by opener Leah Dobson in her 14, while Sterre Kalis and new fast bowling signing Sophia Turner added 17 each.

The Sparks used eight bowlers, with Amy Griffiths being the best of them with 2-10 from three overs.

England quick Issy Wong also took a wicket. She has recently played in the WPL for the Mumbai Indians and then joined the Sparks. Winfield-Hill has taken on media duties for the Diamonds in addition to her role as wicketkeeper-batter.

In response, the Sparks comfortably reached their target with five overs to spare.

Ami Campbell, a former Diamond, was the top scorer with 30 runs off 25 balls at number three before being bowled by Katie Levick.

Among the five bowlers used, Katherine Fraser, Abi Glen, and Levick took a wicket each, while the other wicket was due to a run out.

Although Lizzie Scott, the new ball seamer, did not take any wickets, she had the best figures, conceding only nine runs in her three overs.
