Ireland’s opener Gaby Lewis has expressed the squad's positive energy as they gear up for their ODI series against Sri Lanka at Stormont. Following a thrilling victory in Dublin, where Lewis's superb 119-run innings secured a narrow seven-run win over the Asia Cup champions, the team is in high spirits.
This win marked Ireland women's first triumph over Sri Lanka and also saw Lewis achieve her first T20 century against a full member of the International Cricket Council. The teams are now set to continue their contest in Belfast, with the first of three ODIs scheduled for Friday.
Reflecting on the recent victory, Lewis mentioned that the team is buzzing with excitement. Despite a setback in the opening match, the squad's morale has been lifted by their strong comeback, and the atmosphere within the team is described as "brilliant."
Acknowledging the challenge posed by Sri Lanka’s spin-heavy attack, Lewis noted that the team has had excellent preparation for the series. She conveyed confidence in their plans and readiness, fully backing her team to perform well.
With Laura Delany sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained during Tuesday’s game, Lewis has been promoted to captain the side. Additionally, Una Raymond-Hoey has been ruled out by injury and will be replaced by Sarah Forbes in the squad.
Lewis, who struck 17 fours and two sixes in her outstanding innings on Tuesday, is eager to return to the crease for the ODIs. She shared that she has grown to prefer the longer format over the past couple of years, as it allows her to rely more on her natural instincts without feeling pressured to be overly aggressive.
As the series approaches, Lewis is excited about the opportunity to spend more time at the crease and let her instincts guide her performance.
