Harry Brook Takes Charge of Northern Superchargers

Harry Brook has been appointed captain of the Northern Superchargers for this year's men's Hundred, marking his first leadership role since captaining England's Under-19 team. This new responsibility comes at a crucial time for Brook, 25, who is considered a potential successor to Jos Buttler as England's white-ball captain following their recent World Cup disappointments.

Brook's previous captaincy experience includes leading the England Under-19 team during their World Cup campaign in New Zealand in 2018. His opportunity to lead the Superchargers has been granted by their new head coach, Andrew Flintoff, who has also been involved with England's white-ball team as an assistant coach recently.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Brook mentioned that captaining the Northern Superchargers is an honour, especially at Headingley. He noted the special significance of representing the area and taking on the captaincy role in The Hundred this year.

Brook's last appearance for the Superchargers saw him deliver one of the most remarkable innings in The Hundred's history, scoring an unbeaten 102 from 42 balls against Welsh Fire at Headingley in August. This performance bolstered his case for inclusion in the 50-over World Cup squad.

The Superchargers' squad features prominent players like England Test captain Ben Stokes, West Indies' Nicholas Pooran, and Brook's recent World Cup teammates Adil Rashid and Reece Topley. The team has also been strengthened by the addition of former England opener Jason Roy, who replaces the suspended Brydon Carse.

Brook expressed confidence in the squad's potential and his eagerness to work with coach Flintoff and the team. He hopes that the upcoming season will be memorable.

In the women's team, Hollie Armitage will continue as captain alongside head coach Dani Hazell, following their runner-up finish to Southern Brave in the 2023 campaign.
