In the opening matches of 2024, Jersey was beaten twice by Spain

Jersey lost their first two matches under their new head coach, Paul Hutchison, falling to back-to-back Twenty 20 defeats by Spain at Cartagena.

Despite making the final European stages of qualification for the T20 World Cup, the islanders lost their opening game by five wickets.

They suffered another close defeat in their second game, losing by just one wicket over 20 overs.

In July, Jersey will play in the 2026 T20 World Cup qualifiers in Germany.

Jersey had a good start in their first game, with Harrison Carlyon (48) and Patrick Gouge (52) putting on 89 for the first wicket.

Zak Tribe contributed 23 runs and Jonty Jenner scored 43, resulting in the islanders scoring 195-5 off their 20 overs.

However, in response, Spain managed to reach their target with two balls to spare, with Muhammad Babar and Daniel Doyle-Calle each scoring 46.

In their second game, Jersey were all out for 141 with one ball remaining in the final over.

The match began well for Jersey, with a score of 100-3 after 10 overs. Harrison Carlyon contributed 19 runs, Jenner scored 38, and Gouge top-scored with 48 runs off 27 balls, including four sixes. However, Jersey's lower order failed to perform, with no other players scoring more than ten runs.

In response, Spain scored 145-9 in their 20 overs. Zak Tribe and Dan Birrell each took three wickets, and no Spanish batter scored more than Muhammad Ihsan's 27.

Jersey, who were missing professional players Asa Tribe and Nick Greenwood, defeated Spain in an unofficial T20 match on Saturday. Zak Tribe scored 50 and Charlie Brennan remained unbeaten on 48 as the islanders posted 154-6 before dismissing Spain for 141 in response.
