Due to heavy rain and blustery winds, play was not possible on the final day of the Vitality County Championship match between Northamptonshire and Middlesex at Wantage Road. As a result, both teams were awarded eight points for a high-scoring draw.
The players took an early lunch, but the umpires called off the game shortly after 1pm due to strong winds buffeting the covers and dark clouds circling the ground. Leus du Plooy was unable to add the four runs required to reach his second double-hundred due to the early finish. Meanwhile, Max Holden finished unbeaten on 211.
The two teams scored a total of 1105 runs and lost only eight wickets. This led both head coaches to question the value of trialling the Kookaburra ball during the early months of the English season.
Sadler is optimistic that George Scrimshaw, who played for Northants' second XI this week, will be fit to face Glamorgan on Friday. He mentioned that Jack White is not expected to return until early May.
