Livingstone’s Heroics Lead to Victory Over West Indies

In the second ODI in Antigua on November 2, England levelled the series at 1-1 after an impressive five-wicket win over the West Indies, driven by a maiden century from stand-in skipper Liam Livingstone. Chasing a daunting target of 329, Livingstone's unbeaten 124 off just 85 deliveries secured the victory with 15 balls remaining.

England’s innings started solidly with half-centuries from Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell, setting the stage for Livingstone and Sam Curran’s crucial partnership. With England needing 100 runs in the final 10 overs, Livingstone reached his fifty off 60 balls and then raced to his century just 17 balls later, showcasing his powerful hitting.

Earlier, Shai Hope’s 117 from 127 balls had anchored the West Indies' innings after early setbacks, supported by notable contributions from Keacy Carty (71) and Sherfane Rutherford (54). Despite using nine bowlers, Livingstone’s bowling choices, including limiting Jofra Archer’s spell, drew some questions. However, his batting more than compensated for any tactical concerns.

Entering at 107-3 in the 21st over, Livingstone took charge after Bethell’s departure for 55. He unleashed three consecutive sixes off Gudakesh Motie soon after reaching his half-century, and shared a run-a-ball 52 with Curran. Curran’s dismissal in the 46th over didn’t slow down the momentum, as Livingstone hit debutant Shamar Joseph for three sixes and a four in the following over, sealing the win for England. This victory sets up an exciting series decider in Barbados on Wednesday.
