Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali is expected to miss Warwickshire's first game

Warwickshire head coach Mark Robinson anticipates that fast bowler Hasan Ali will be unavailable for the opening game of the County Championship season due to his commitments with the Pakistan team.

Ali, who has taken 240 wickets in 140 matches for Pakistan in all formats, has been named in a 30-player squad for a fitness camp between March 26 and April 8.

The Bears will begin their season against newly promoted Worcestershire at Edgbaston on Friday, April 5.

Robinson informed BBC WM Sport:

"We're a bit unsure when Has is going to arrive due to the ever-changing events in Pakistan."

Fortunately, Liam Norwell is fully fit to start the season, according to Robinson. Norwell missed the entire 2023 campaign due to a back injury.

Since his impressive 9-62 on the final day of the 2022 Championship season, which helped the Bears stay in Division One, the 32-year-old former Gloucestershire paceman has not bowled in a first-class match.

Warwickshire finished fourth in the Championship last summer, with Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Chris Rushworth bowling over 700 overs between them, taking 54 and 53 wickets respectively.
