The best moments from the career of Ben Stokes, the England captain and all-rounder, on his 100th Test

Ben Stokes has become the 16th player to represent England in 100 Test matches. However, few have created such a remarkable list of memorable moments.

From Headingley 2019 to Cape Town 258, a maiden Perth century to that Trent Bridge catch,

A top 10 list of Stokes's best moments is below.

Perth's first century

Let's go back to the beginning. The 2013-14 Ashes series in Australia is primarily remembered for the hosts' 5-0 victory and the decline of a once-great England side.

In only his second Test, a 22-year-old Stokes scored England's only century of the series - a defiant 120 against Mitchell Johnson and his colleagues.

Lord's fastest century

Fast forward 17 months and despite his early success, Stokes had not fully established himself in the side. He had been demoted to number eight in the batting order and was dropped during the summer of 2014.

At the start of the 2015 summer, he was selected as England's number six. Stokes responded by smashing the fastest hundred at Lord's in the first Test against New Zealand.

In the first innings, he scored 92 runs and took three wickets, including Kane Williamson and Brendon McCullum in consecutive balls. Joe Root saluted him on the Lord's balcony, similar to Marlon Samuels' salute.

To catch the Ashes

Stokes has also excelled in the field. One of his most memorable moments in Tests was his incredible catch to dismiss Adam Voges off the bowling of Stuart Broad in the fourth Ashes Test of 2015.

Although the ball was behind Stokes at fifth slip, he managed to stick out his right hand and hold on to the catch, while Broad took 8-15 to help England regain the urn.

Cape Town's devastating 258

Stokes' highest Test score remains intact, as does his record for England's fastest double century. He also holds the distinction of being the second-fastest player to reach 200 in Test history.

In January 2016, Stokes decimated South Africa's bowling attack with a remarkable 258 off just 198 balls, including 30 fours and 11 sixes.

Headingley 2019

England's 2019 Ashes hopes were fading at Headingley. They needed 73 to win when the last man Jack Leach joined Stokes at the crease to keep the series alive. Stokes almost single handedly dragged them over the line, scoring an epic 135 not out in a stunning assault.

He started by taking three from his first 73 balls.

Leading England to victory in Cape Town through his bowling skills

when he took the final three wickets in Cape Town during the second Test against South Africa?

It was deep into the fifth day and Stokes delivered an energy-defying spell that helped England win with 8.2 overs to spare.

Windies downed in Manchester

During the Covid-19 bio-bubbles of 2020, Ben Stokes achieved his second-highest Test score of 176 in the second Test against West Indies at Old Trafford.

He was promoted to open in the second innings as England sought quick runs and a declaration. Stokes scored 78 not out from 57 deliveries and took three crucial wickets, delivering a superb all-round performance.

The Bazball begins

On 2 June 2022, Stokes led England as full-time Test captain against New Zealand.

He demonstrated his ultra-aggressive approach by having five slips in place on the first morning at Lord's. England chased down 277 in style for victory thanks to Joe Root's unbeaten century, marking the first of many thrilling chases under Stokes' captaincy.

H2: Rawalpindi raid

England supporters have become accustomed to remarkable victories under captain Stokes, with one of the most unforgettable being the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2022.

Despite the pitch being incredibly flat, Stokes demonstrated exceptional skill in placing his fielders, making strategic bowling changes, adopting an aggressive approach, and bravely declaring the innings to secure a historic triumph as the sun set on the final day.

H2: A blistering 155 against Australia

Stokes' 155 at Lord's during the 2023 Ashes against Australia was a notable achievement.

Stokes aggressively attacked the Australian bowling after Jonny Bairstow was controversially stumped by Alex Carey, hitting nine sixes in a hostile atmosphere.

By the time he was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood, Australia had won by 43 runs.
