Ajinkya Rahane Joins Leicestershire for One-Day Cup Defense

Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has rejoined Leicestershire for their One-Day Cup defence. The 36-year-old, who was initially signed by the Foxes last summer but opted out of the deal, is now set to participate in the 50-over competition beginning in late July. Additionally, Rahane will feature in five County Championship matches.

Expressing his enthusiasm on the club’s website, Rahane shared that he is eager to return to Leicestershire. He mentioned that he had followed the team's results last year and was impressed, hoping to enjoy his cricket and contribute to the club’s success this season. Rahane will replace all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who will be joining the South Africa squad for their Caribbean tour.

Rahane's inclusion adds significant strength to Leicestershire’s batting lineup, bringing with him a career tally of over 34,000 runs and 66 centuries across all formats.

Leicestershire's director of cricket, Claude Henderson, expressed his delight at securing Rahane’s services after the initial deal didn’t materialise. Henderson stated that having Rahane is a significant boost for the crucial part of the season. He highlighted Rahane’s vast experience, leadership qualities, and run-scoring prowess, emphasising that his presence will be invaluable for the team and offer a great learning opportunity for their batters.
