Alice Capsey Rejoins England T20 Squad for SA Tour
Alice Capsey has been recalled to England's T20 squad for their multi-format tour of South Africa after initially being left out. The 20-year-old was brought back into the fold on Monday following minor injury concerns within the squad.
England’s tour features three T20s, three ODIs, and a historic four-day Test in Bloemfontein, marking the first Women's Test in South Africa since 2002. The tour begins on November 24 and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Cricket.
Capsey’s recent form had raised concerns, with no scores above 25 in her last five T20 internationals. Her poor run included being run out for a single during England’s World Cup exit against the West Indies in October.
Head coach Jon Lewis cited Capsey’s inconsistency as the reason for her initial omission. “She’s trending in the wrong direction,” he explained. “This reset will help her adapt her game for greater consistency in an England shirt.”
Despite the challenges, Lewis remains optimistic about Capsey’s future. “She’s incredibly strong-willed and determined. I have no doubt she’ll play many games for England across all formats in the years to come.”
Capsey showcased her potential in the Women's Big Bash League earlier this month, taking her first five-wicket haul. However, she also recorded a golden duck in Melbourne Renegades’ defeat to Perth Scorchers, highlighting the ups and downs of her recent performances.
The T20 squad arrived in South Africa on November 16, with the ODI and Test squads set to join later. England’s tour schedule concludes with the four-day Test from December 15-18, as the team looks to cap off their campaign with strong performances across all formats.
