An astonishing beginning for the Afghanistan team

In Guyana, Afghanistan began their T20 World Cup journey with an impressive 125-run win against Uganda after dismissing their opponents for just 58.

Uganda, making their tournament debut, chose to bowl first, only for Afghanistan's opening duo to compile a partnership of 154, laying the groundwork for a commanding total.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashed 76 runs from 45 deliveries, while Ibrahim Zadran scored 70 runs from 46 balls for Afghanistan before a late surge of wickets restricted them to 183-5.

Ugandan bowlers Cosmas Kyewuta (2-25) and Brian Masaba (2-21) stood out among the bowlers.

Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed 5-9 and was on a hat-trick in the first over, leading to Uganda struggling in their run chase.

Captain Rashid Khan and Naveen Ul Haq each picked up two wickets as Afghanistan bowled Uganda out in 16 overs with only two batters reaching double digits.
