England's James Anderson celebrated his 700th Test wicket

Anderson milestone overshadowed by poor batting

Anderson, 41, is a legend of English cricket and British sport. His progress towards 700 wickets has been painstaking over the past year, but he achieved the milestone in a picture-perfect setting, with the sun glinting off the snow-capped Himalayan mountains.

Kuldeep edged, wicketkeeper Foakes took the catch and Anderson celebrated by waving the ball to the crowd. England had a chance to end the tour on a positive note with some good batting after Bashir had Jasprit Bumrah stumped by Foakes' sharp hands.

They imploded due to an ill-judged attempt at aggression. Duckett and Pope's games were scrutinised, resulting in Duckett charging Ashwin's fifth ball and getting bowled, while Pope top-edged a rash sweep. In the meantime, Crawley provided catching practice to the leg slip fielder.

In his 100th Test, Bairstow hit Ashwin for three sixes but was later undone by Kuldeep's sharp turn. Stokes continued to struggle with his batting as Ashwin went straight through him, and Foakes was bowled attempting an uncharacteristic slog sweep for Ashwin's fifth wicket.

Root, on the other hand, demonstrated a trust in defence that his teammates were lacking. Despite his disappointing tour - having passed 50 only once before this - the former captain gave England a lesson in patience, shot-selection, and adaptability.

He scored 28 runs in a partnership with Hartley and added another 48 with the determined Bashir. Root was on 78 when he was joined by last-man Anderson, eventually getting caught out by Kuldeep just before reaching a century.
