Training session for Indians in the United States
India's T20 World Cup campaign kicks off on June 5 against Ireland. On June 9, they take on longtime rivals Pakistan. Games against the US and Canada follow.
The day after arriving in the USA to compete in the T20 World Cup, the Indian team engaged in some light training drills.
“We came in the day before yesterday and we just eased into our routines here. The idea was to get used to the time zone. Today we are having our first ground session,” Soham Desai the strength and conditioning coach of the team said in a video shared by the BCCI on Wednesday.
“They have been away for 2 and a half months from us. Just getting them together to know where they stand, and what needs to be done before the World Cup was the goal. The goal today is to spend 45 minutes to an hour in the park in this heat or whatever to again get going,” he added.
Participating in the drills were players such as skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav, among others.
“We have not yet played cricket. Come here for a team activity today. Hopefully, it’ll be good. The weather is really good, so looking forward to it,” Bumrah said.
“Very exciting to be here in New York. Has a good vibe. Bright sun out,” Pandya said.
“First time we are gonna play cricket in New York. It’s gonna be super super fun,” Ravindra Jadeja quipped while Surya said, ” I heard cricket is growing here in the US so we are excited.”
As per the Indian Express, Virat Kohli had a mini-break from the game after the IPL, therefore he was unable to play in the team's solitary warm-up match against Bangladesh.
