Brad Wheal, Michael Jones return to Scotland T20 World Cup squad but Josh Davey omitted

Michael Jones and Brad Wheal have returned to Scotland's 15-man provisional squad for next month's Men's T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA, but experienced Somerset seamer Josh Davey is a notable absentee.

Jones and Wheal, who play for Durham and Hampshire respectively, were left out of Scotland's squad for this month's T20 Tri-Series against the Netherlands and Ireland, but have been cleared by their counties for the World Cup campaign, along with Sussex 2nd XI wicketkeeper Charlie Tear, at the expense of seam bowler Gavin Main, who is the only change from the Tri-Series squad.

Davey, however, will be missed as he has been an integral part of Somerset's strong start to the season, including taking key wickets in their two-day victory over Essex at Taunton in this week's County Championship round, a result that leaves the club just two points off the top of Division One.

Neither Davey nor his Somerset teammate Andrew Umeed, who is uncapped at T20I level, have been selected for the World Cup. Davey's absence is a particular blow given his wealth of experience. He has featured in Scotland's last three T20 World Cup campaigns in 2016, 2021 and 2022, including a nine-wicket haul at 13.66 in 2021.

Scotland will play England (June 4), Namibia (June6), Oman (June 9) and Australia (June 15) in Group B of the tournament. The top two teams from each group will then progress to the Super Eight stage of the tournament before the knockout semi-finals and final.

Scotland squad:
Richie Berrington, Matthew Cross, Brad Currie, Chris Greaves, Ollie Hairs, Jack Jarvis, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Chris Sole, Charlie Tear, Mark Watt, Brad Wheal
