Chris Jordan Confident in Jofra Archer's Test Cricket Comeback

Chris Jordan believes Jofra Archer is determined to return to Test cricket, and seeing Mark Wood consistently bowl over 90MPH in the recent series against the West Indies will only motivate him further.

Jordan told Mail Sport, "Watching Woody will definitely inspire Jofra to rejoin the Test team. They have a unique relationship where they're always watching the speed gun, which is beneficial for English cricket."

Archer, 29, played for England in the recent T20 World Cup and is currently with Southern Brave in The Hundred alongside Jordan. However, he is sidelined from red-ball cricket until 2025 as England manages his return following a series of injuries, aiming for a gradual comeback across all formats. His last Test appearance was in February 2021.

Jordan expressed optimism about Archer's return, saying, "I don't see why Jofra can't come back to Test cricket. It has to be a step-by-step process. It's easy to get carried away, but he has a long way to go and a lot of cricket to play before we can consider him fully back."

He added that expectations are always high for Archer due to his capabilities with the ball, noting that Archer is making significant progress. Jordan and Archer, both born in Barbados before moving to England, share a close friendship. Jordan became the first England player to take a men’s T20I hat-trick in Barbados against the USA in June. Along with Adil Rashid, they are the only England players to have taken at least 100 T20I wickets.

Reflecting on his achievement, Jordan said, "That was one of my best days of cricket, with my hometown crowd and so many family and friends present." He emphasised that he still feels capable of contributing to England, despite the expected changes in the white-ball setup following Matthew Mott’s recent dismissal.

Jos Buttler will retain the captaincy as England prepares to host Australia in September for three T20Is and five ODIs, with Marcus Trescothick serving as interim coach.
