Cricket Australia to Name Todd Greenberg as New CEO

Cricket Australia is reportedly preparing to announce Todd Greenberg, the former chief executive of the NRL, as its new CEO. This transition follows the current CEO, Nick Hockley, who has revealed that he will step down in early 2025. Although Cricket Australia has yet to officially confirm the appointment, it is expected that state cricket chairs will receive an update from chairman Mike Baird on the upcoming changes. The board had convened for a meeting recently, indicating that the announcement is imminent.

Hockley had previously shared in August that the ongoing summer would be his last in charge, committing to his role until March, subject to possible alterations. Greenberg, aged 53, previously led the NRL from 2016 to 2020 and has a background with Cricket NSW in the 1990s. He returned to cricket management in 2021 as head of the Australian Cricketers’ Association, where he facilitated negotiations for a new agreement with Cricket Australia.

Greenberg emerged as the top contender to succeed Hockley after a prolonged search conducted by the global firm Spencer Stuart. Among the shortlist of candidates was Ben Vonwiller, a former cricketer based in the US. Reflecting on the challenges faced in cricket, Greenberg expressed concerns about the sustainability of Test cricket, emphasising the importance of ensuring that countries like South Africa and New Zealand remain competitive in the future amidst the pressures of global leagues.
