Durham Signs Former Warwickshire Captain

Durham has secured the services of former Warwickshire captain Will Rhodes on a three-year contract, starting next summer. The 29-year-old all-rounder, who led Warwickshire to their County Championship triumph in 2021, announced in July that he would be departing Edgbaston at the end of the season.

Since beginning his professional career with Yorkshire in 2013, Rhodes has accumulated nearly 8,500 runs and claimed 168 wickets across all formats.

Durham’s director of cricket, Marcus North, expressed his excitement about the signing, stating that players of Rhodes' calibre, character, and experience rarely become available. North pointed out that Rhodes’ versatile skills will strengthen Durham’s County Championship and white-ball squads.

Recently, Rhodes impressed with a double-century (201) against Kent in the Championship, falling just short of his highest first-class score. In addition to his 11 first-class centuries, he also scored a 113 in a 50-over One-Day Cup match against Nottinghamshire in 2022.

Looking ahead to his move to Chester-le-Street, Rhodes shared his enthusiasm, saying he had heard great things about the club from both former and current players. He expressed his eagerness to join Durham and get started with the team this winter.
