England Women’s Cricket Team Eyes T20I Whitewash Against New Zealand

After a stellar summer, England's Women’s cricket team is on the verge of a 5-0 T20I series sweep against New Zealand, having only been thwarted by rain in one ODI against Pakistan in May. This follows their 3-0 ODI series victory over New Zealand. With the 2026 T20 World Cup on home soil approaching, the team has enjoyed playing in front of enthusiastic crowds, and Sarah Glenn, who took 4-19 in the recent win at The Oval, has personal milestones on her mind.

“You can’t help but be excited by Lord’s,” Glenn shared with Sky Sports. “Playing there in front of a big crowd is a special opportunity. The support we receive is incredible and reminds us why we play. Many of us grew up playing in front of almost no one, so seeing those smiling faces in the crowd instantly calms me and makes me feel like I'm here to entertain them.”

Glenn is also eyeing her first five-wicket haul, stating, “That would be the cherry on top of the cake. Lord’s holds a special place in my heart, especially since I watched the 2017 World Cup final there when England won. I remember thinking how much I wanted to be on the field celebrating with those girls. While Wednesday isn’t a World Cup final, it’s still a privilege to play there.”

With a few tickets still available for the Lord’s match, anticipation is high. Although the game isn’t a World Cup match, the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh is just around the corner in October.

England’s dominant performance against New Zealand in the first four T20Is has been perfect preparation for the tournament, where Glenn and the team’s talented spinners are expected to shine. The series opener in Southampton saw England field four spinners—Glenn, Sophie Ecclestone, Charlie Dean, and Linsey Smith—all of whom made significant contributions.

Off-spinner Dean celebrated her 100th T20I wicket in the first match, while left-arm spinner Ecclestone, the world’s No. 1 bowler in ODI and T20 cricket, took four wickets in the third T20I in Canterbury, becoming the fastest player to reach 125 wickets in the format.
